Professional sport is a tough game, and it can be difficult to make it if, you don’t have some craziness built inside of you. But who are the craziest athletes in history? Let’s take a look.
John McEnroe
The angry American was famously known as one of the best tennis players of the 1970s and 1980s. The gentlemen sport got a bit of a shock when this guy came into the sports scene and shared uncovered comments on his thoughts on the game, in a tone that wouldn’t be a butler worthy. The judges were at risk if McEnroe didn’t agree to their calls. Just think about the famous words “You cannot be serious” from the 1981 Wimbledon tournament.
Luis Suarez
Professional sports can be tough, and you for sure need to have plenty to eat before entering the field. No one knows that better than the Uruguay striker Luis Suarez. During a World Cup match in 2014 against Italy Suarez bit the Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini. That left a remarkable mark on Chiellini’s shoulder from the teeth of Suarez and gave Suarez a record-long ban from international matches. With 9 matches quarantined, he was out for the rest of the World Cup, and he missed Copa América the following year. And this was not his only bite during a football match. He did it twice before.
Mike Tyson
Iron Mike for sure deserves a spot on this list. Simply because the boxing champion took a bite of Evander Holyfield’s right ear at a fight for the WBA heavyweight championship in 1997 and spat it out on the ring floor. When the match started again, he even bit Holyfield’s other ear and lost his boxing license as a result of this behavior. He said things that shouldn’t be repeated here and is for sure one of the craziest athletes in sports history.
Tonya Harding
As one of America’s top ice skaters, Tonya Harding was a massive hope for the 1994 Winter Olympics. But the Olympics was covered by the dark shadow of an incident just before the 1994 American Championship. Harding’s rival Nancy Kerrigan was attacked with a baton by a guy hired by Harding’s ex-husband. The intention was to injure Kerrigan, so she couldn’t compete at either the national championship or the Olympics. Instead, Kerrigan won a silver medal at the Olympics, while Harding finished in 8th place.

Travis Pastrana
Talking about extreme sports, there’s no one else like Travis Pastrana. In 2007 the American daredevil jumped out of an airplane without a parachute. Coming from the free fall, he should be grabbed by some friends with parachutes in the air. In 2018 he made a 149 feet motorcycle ramp
to ramp jump over the famous Caesar’s Palace Fountain in tribute to his role model Evel Knievel who missed the same jump in 1967.
